Bible: DEUTERONOMY - OT Law

The Book of Deuteronomy is the last books of the Law of Moses. It was set in the format of a suzerainty treaty of that period of history that laid forth the bond between a big power and that of a small power under its oversight. But, in Deuteronomy, the big power was Yahweh, the God of Israel, and the small power was Israel, His People. It promised wonderful blessings for obedience but serious penalties for disobedience. It was addressed to the generation that was born in the years of wilderness wandering that was never in Egypt. They were to firmly uphold the national covenant God had made with their parents at Mt. Sinai so that they may enter the Promised Land. It speaks of One who is greater than Moses who will come to rule His People.
