Bible: 2 SAMUEL - OT History

The Book of 2 SAMUEL was written by Samuel the last judge, who was also prophet & priest in God’s service. It continues the events & history of Israel as a monarchy after 1 Samuel. It records the rise of David as king after Saul's death & how, by the Lord's enabling, he united the tribes of Israel into a cohesive kingdom. Some key events are how Jerusalem was made the capital, how the ark was brought into the city, how David fell into sin & lost his throne for a time, how God restored it to him because of his repentance, and how Israel expanded under David. Most significantly, it recorded God's promise to David that He will always raise up kings from David's line for Israel. This promise pointed to Jesus as the Messianic King, who is the Son of David.
