2 KINGS records the history of the Divided Kingdoms of Israel. The history of the Northern Kingdom covers from king Ahaziah to king Hoshea, when it fell to the Assyrians by God's judgement. The history of the Southern Kingdom covers from king Jehoram until king Jehoiachin, when it fell to the Babylonians by God's judgement. The Southern Kingdom outlasted the Northern because a number of its kings were obedient to the LORD. All the Northern kings lived in idolatry. Yet, in the end, the South fell like the North, because it also became steeped in idolatry. The prophets Elijah and Elisha shone in the North. The good kings like Hezekiah and Josiah shone for the South.
