2 CHRONICLES covers the history of the kingly line of David from Solomon, in the period of the United Kingdom of Israel, through the reign of Rehoboam to Zedekiah in the Southern Kingdom of Judah. It tracks and assesses the reign of each king in sequence as to how well or poorly each kept God's covenant. The most notable good kings were Hezekiah & Josiah. There were many bad kings. The worst king was Mannaseh, who brought the kingdom into irretrievable idolatry that spelt its end at God's judgement & exile. The temple was destroyed. Jerusalem was captured. Yet the book ended with the hope of restoration by the decree of king Cyrus of Persia.
